Volunteers work to abstract and photograph the tombstones of Barron County. About half the cemeteries in the county are completed and projects for this year will be determined. If weather does not permit, the alternative plans for the evening involve a master-blaster indexing night at the Research Room, using personal laptops etc. Volunteers welcomed.

This presenation includes descriptions of 3 DNA tests (Y-chormosome, mitochondrial and autosomal tests) currently used by genealogists.  The presentation describes how these DNA tests are translated into understandable numeric values for use in searching genealogy databases.  Examples of DNA test certificates and information on how different testing companies handle DNA searching will be presented.

Austin wil talk about how a family's history is tied up in the most everyday items.  After his grandma told him the story begind some old muffin tins, the tins "came to life and had new meaning and value to me".  

Newspapers hold many stories about our families: obituaries, marriage announcements, anniversaries along with local news columns with surprising stories. This class will show you how to find newspapers online and in libraries. The newspaper collection at the Wisconsin Historical Society is second in size only to the Library of Congress.

 

A presentation on the history of their family's stone house.  Members are invited to share stories about homes they have lived in and how that home has been a part of their family history. 

Finding the village of origin will be presented.  Twenty-eight different source ideas will be presented.  There should be somethingnew for beginners all the way to advanced familly researchers.
